Foundations and Funders Collaborate to Strengthen Non-Profits in Nevada County

NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA

Nevada County Funding Organizations have formed the Nevada County Funders Network, a coalition of foundations and organizations who provide funding and resources to non-profits in the County of Nevada.  This unique collaborative of funders includes funders such as Nevada County First Five, Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation, United Way and Nevada County Health and Human Services.  In addition, partners such as the Center for Non-Profit Leadership offer training and support for the regional non-profits. 

Nevada County Funders Network exists to provide a regular opportunity for representatives of Nevada County  funders to meet to:

• Share information about current funding priorities, guidelines and decisions which support programs, services, and voluntary/not for profit organizations in Nevada County;
• Share information and learn about current trends and practices in grantmaking and issues affecting the voluntary sector in Nevada County;
• And jointly plan and organize initiatives that contribute to strengthening the capacity of voluntary sector and non-profit organizations in Nevada County.

The group meets quarterly and  offers a variety of workshops and resources on proposal writing, marketing, board governance, and other relevant networking events. The NCFN is also pleased to launch the official Nevada County Funders Network Website: www.nevadacountyfundersnetwork.org, which will assist the voluntary sectors and non-profit organizations in resourcing funding opportunities and streamlining the grants and application processes.      

Megan Timpany, Executive Director of United Way Nevada County summarizes, “As a funding agency, it is critical to work with other funders to explore the best ways to support our Nevada County non-profits.  For example, our website is unique in that it features funding announcements, data useful for grantwriting, and training announcements from multiple funders across Nevada County .”
